My girlfriend and I stayed here for a few nights. Frankly we didn't want to leave. We were in one of the suites (saddler's creek I think). For 2 people it was almost too big. Had a nice big living room, huge bathroom and a lovely balcony overlooking the vineyard. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Wifi was available in the suite. The breakfast was placed in the fridge which made it nice and relaxed each morning to breakfast on the balcony in the morning sun. Recommended for a romantic few days.

"Fabulous Stay" - January 2014
My husband & I spent a fabulous 2 nights at the Hermitage Lodge as part of our recent honeymoon tour of NSW & Queensland. Excellent accommodation - we had a lodge with spa bath & verandah views on both sides of the lodge - one looking out over the beautiful vineyard. There was ample parking space and the room was very comfortable. Free Wifi was a bonus too!
We arrived on the Sunday late afternoon having driven up from Sydney and asked the front of house staff about booking onto a vineyard tour - they could not have been more helpful putting us in touch with Gary at The Vineyard Shuttle Service who phoned us back that evening persoanlly to organise picking us up at on the door step of the Lodge.
Breakfast was put into the fridge by room service and it was lovely to sit out on the verandah on both mornngs enjoying the tranquility. We had a wonderful meal at the Cacciatore Restaurant, the Award Winning restaurant on site at the Hermitage Lodge - it was great to put our wine tasting skills to the test with what was probably one of the best meals we experienced on our month long trip to Australia - well worth the expense! We would definitely recommend the Hermitage Lodge if you are looking for a romantic break.

Thanks for a Wonderfuly Stay
Hi Mark and Noreen,
I just wanted to send a note to let you know how much I enjoy staying at the Hermitage when I am in Pokolbin on Tulloch business - I love the quaint feel of the place, and it's just the right small size for me. Thanks also Mark for allowing me to extend my stay through last night - the Brokenwood suite is lovely.

A great base for a weekend in the Hunter Valley
Have just enjoyed a three night break in the Hunter Valley, staying at Hermitage Lodge. The accommodation met expectations with a lovely outlook from the balcony; a great way to end the day watching the sunset and enjoy a glass or two of local purchases. The breakfast provisions supplied were a welcome addition and were plentiful and delicious. The on-site restaurant was amazing... we chose to order from the 'take away' menu and eat in the room for a little more causal evening. The owners and all the team were very welcoming, and offered some great suggestions and recommendations. Good central location to be based for a weekend of exploring the Hunter. Constable Estate just a minute or two up Gillards Rd was a great cellar door experience nearby. A great location for a great weekend; will certainly be back again in future.

A relaxing stay
Hermitage Lodge is a lovely hotel. We stayed in studio room overlooking the vineyards which was spacious and stylish. The make-your-own breakfast on the balcony was a real treat. The staff were very obliging, and having an awarded restaurant on site was an added bonus. Good value for money and highly recommended!

Perfect location, perfect place!
We stayed in the Hermitage because we wanted to visit some of the wineries in the Huntervalley. This hotel is perfectly centrally located. We could even walk to a winery. After a perfect day you can have a wonderfull diner at restaurant Il cacciatore on the same premisses. The manager was friendly, helped out to plann our day and was intended to make our stay perfect. We would love to go back!

One of the best Italian restaurants
I travelled with my wife and 14 month toddler and we looked the place. Booked a vineyard studio, nice large room with a patio overlooking the lodges Shiraz vines. Just beautiful. Very clean and comfortable room & bath. Continental break fast Musli was fantastic. I could easily say the lodge's Italian restaurant Il Cacciatori is the best Italian food I've ever tried. The staff was so attentive even gave drawing and toys to keep my toddler occupied. The co-owner Noreen was very kind and inquire over our little one. We were driving so being able to take the car right to the door step of our studio was very convenient. Location is very close to some of the oldest and best vineries in the Hunter. You will surely see kangaroos in the vicinity. Highly recommend the mountain lookout point just off the McDonalds road. The drive up their is off road but passes by some wonderfully quaint private farm houses as well as a Bison farm. Beautiful views of the Hunter awaits you on top

Anniversary food wine and relax
This was our 21st Wedding anniversary and we wanted something special, not too over the top, something with great food, something extra comfortable and somewhere we were familiar with and could relax but do some activities if we wanted (like wine tasting). This ticked all the boxes 100%. There seems to be something that could be improved upon wherever we go, not this time and not at the Hermitage Lodge. Neither my wife nor I could fault anything about our room, the genuinely friendly service, the restaurant or the area. Upon arrival we were greeted very well, had our restaurant booking confirmed and as we moved the car to the room (just around the corner) the receptionist was at our room with our pre-ordered cheese plater and a bottle of wine. Nothing was too much trouble. The room was spacious (we had the Premier studio) very adequate for the two of us for a couple of days, a nice decking area over looking the vines where we set up the delicious cheese and fruit plater and relaxed for the afternoon. We ate at the onsite restaurant "Il Cacciatore" that evening and again could not fault anything (see separate review for this), simply divine. The room was quiet and dark that evening and we slept like a log with just the hint of the noise of frogs in the distance. Loved the complimentary in room continental breakfast, the in house made muesli was delicious, more please! Our room was made up that afternoon and we decided to eat "in room" that evening. Started with a beer in the lounge area just off reception (wined out by this time), ordered pizza from the restaurant - it was brought out to us when ready with a friendly smile and thankyou. We could not have had a better break, the atmosphere and the friendly nature of the people really made the time we had in the Hunter. Well done to the staff at Hermitage Lodge and Il Cacciatore and thank you.

More than expected
Booked the Hermitage Lodge on wotif.com and when I walked in the door on arriving, was incredibly impressed. Beautiful, spacious and has everything you need for a weekendin the Hunter. Breakfast was included, beautiful touch...handmade muesli, fresh milk, English muffins with spreads to have in the lodge. Amazing outlook, spa on the top deck...loved it all!

HUNTER VALLEY BEST ITALIAN RESTAURANT
We have been at the Hermitage Lodge several times, and each time we have enjoyed it thoroughly... the ambiance, the food, the quality, the service and the accommodation. We have stayed there overnite and it might not be a 5 star place but very close!

SIMPLY OUTSTANDING YOU NEED NOT LOOK ANY FURTHER
I used trip advisor when I was selcting a place to take my husband away
for his 30th birthday and I chose Hermitage Lodge based on their reviews
on this website and I was absolutely delighted when I arrived to see
that the reviews were 100% accurate. This place is AMAZING!!! The
service was top notch, the restuarant food was 5 star (delivered a 3
course meal to our room) and the premier suite OH MY GOD the spa on the
deck sipping wine and looking over the vineyard was to die for!! STAY IN
THE SUITE it is TOTALLY worth the extra money. Just got home and
already planning our next trip to Hermitage Lodge!!!

Service above and beyond
This is a lovely place to stay, everything here is wonderful, room
facility etc. The deal breaker for me and my partner was the staff, who
are genuinely interested in making your day. Their efforts to make your
experience the best it can be, really makes your trip that much more
amazing. Restaurant has great food and can get delivery if you want to
eat in. Room Tip: breakfast muesli is best ever!!!!

Restful, convenient, relaxing, quiet
After reading most reviews of most properties in the Hunter Valley and
calling several of the properties we decided on the Hermitage Lodge. As
on the phone, the hosts were gracious, informative and very
accommodating. They helped us select a quiet room and described the room
and properties explicitly. We were very pleasantly greeted and shown to
our room; we were very impressed as it was much better than we
anticipated. Continental breakfast was provided and a cooked breakfast
available if requested. The highest compliment I can pay is that our
room and location were so quiet you could hear the sun rise -- and we
did!! I cannot imagine any other lodging better than this in the Hunter.
As an added bonus, it was very convenient to wineries, the Hunter
Valley Gardens, and restaurants. Without hesitation, this is the place
to stay in the Hunter Valley!

Superb service, beautiful lodging and central location
We spent one night in a deluxe room at the Hermitage Lodge and were extremely pleased by the excellent service and pleasant room. The owners are very personable, attentive and friendly. Their homemade muesli -- included in the complimentary continental breakfast -- was heavenly. Also worth noting was the flawlessly working free wireless internet in and around our room -- pretty rare to come by free wireless that actually works! Definitely a wonderful place to stay in close proximity of many wineries in Pokolbin. Highly recommended.

Gorgeous with Central Location
Thankyou Mark & Noreen. We stayed in the spa bath room for 3 nights & had a great experience. Sipping local wines on the verandah at sunset over the vines, late steamy spa baths & the in room breakfast was a perfect fill as much as it was gourmet all while the room was soaked by the morning sun. Ate at the restaurant each night two of those nights were takeaway - just quietly - it was magic to sit in the lounge, by the fire over a local red waiting for take away pizza. Speaking of we found both menus - both A-la-carte / take away were great value along with a very extensive selection of local wines to boot!. Central location, friendly owners. Hermitage Lodge ticked all our boxes, would definitely recommend & stay again.

Excellent Hotel location was great. Staff was friendly & helpful. Our room was just perfect for us, wrap around balcony overlooking the winery was just beautiful & we loved the high cathedral type ceiling in our room more like a miniature chalet than a hotel room just beautiful. We dined at the Italian Restaurant on Saturday Night & the food was just delicious. We had a great weekend.

Our only disappointment was that we could only stay for the two nights. The Hermitage lodge offers great rooms in a quiet location yet close to many of the great wineries. Sitting out on the verandah overlooking the vineyard was heaven. The breakfast is beautiful - great home made muesli yoghurt & muffins left in your fridge for you to enjoy on your verandah in the morning We ate at the restaurant one night (beautiful) and the next ordered lovely pizza & pasta to have on our verandah. One of us is gluten intolerant & the staff did not hesitate to provide tasty alternatives.
